SUCCESSFUL LETSEMA CAMPAIGN TACKLES ILLEGAL DUMPING HOTSPOTS IN MAUBANE WARD 16
MAUBANE – The Community Development Services Directorate has registered significant progress in its ongoing Service Delivery Outreach Program following the successful execution of the Letsema Cleaning of Illegal Dumping initiative today in Maubane Ward 16.
The outreach program, which commenced at 08h00, mobilized municipal workers, local volunteers, and community members under the traditional spirit of Letsema—working together as a collective to achieve a common goal. The campaign successfully cleared three major illegal dumping hotspots located along the pavement-to-road corridors that previously posed environmental and health hazards to the neighborhood.
This joint effort highlights the Municipality’s commitment to fostering a healthy, safe, and dignified environment for all residents.
“We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to every community member and volunteer who stepped up to lend a hand today,” said a representative from the Community Development Services Directorate. “Restoring these three hotspot areas is a major step forward, but maintaining a clean environment requires continuous partnership between the Municipality and the community.”
To ensure that the cleared areas remain clean, the Directorate strongly urges all residents to make full use of the municipal waste collection services, which collect household refuse on a weekly basis.
Furthermore, the Municipality is taking a zero-tolerance approach toward environmental degradation. Residents are encouraged to take pride in their neighborhood and report anyone caught illegally dumping waste. Perpetrators can be reported directly to their local Ward Councilors or through the Municipal Customer Service Call Centre.
Together, through responsible waste management and active active citizenship, we can keep Maubane Ward 16 clean and green.
