G5 MATERIAL, and the recent floods were top of the agenda during Moretele Local Municipality Mayor’s Intergovernmental Relations (IGR) meeting with three Moretele Chiefs (Dikgosi) and representatives of Bahwaduba Traditional Council.

The Mayor, Hon. Cllr Masango George Manyike met with Bakgatlha ba Mocha Chief, Hon. Phopholo Maubane, Bakgatlha ba Mosetlha Chief, Hon. Nchaupe Makapan III, Baphuthing baga Nawa Chief, Hon. Sekhupi Nawa and Bahwaduba Traditional Council representatives, Ntate Lasi Mathibe, Ntate Lucas Kgatlhe and Ntate Lazarus Peete.

Hon. Speaker, Cllr Freda Mapela and Bakgatlha ba Mosetlha Traditional Councillor, Lencoe Makapan also joined the meeting. The afternoon meeting was held at the Carousel Casino today, Thursday, 06 March 2025.

The Chiefs took turns to voice their concerns over the handling of G5 on projects implemented by the Municipality and provided solutions for planned projects.

They further sent messages of appreciation to the Municipality on their responsiveness during the recent disasters.

The Speaker reminded the traditional leaders that the Local Government Municipal Structures allows them to participate in the proceedings of Council.

“Going forward you will receive invites from the Office of the Mayor to attend our Council meetings to ensure that you are privy to decisions being taken at Council affecting your communities.”

The Mayor told the Chiefs that the Municipality cannot work outside of the Traditional Leaderships. “If we do not involve you, we will be creating a gap and in turn be making mistakes. I commit to working closely with you to grow Moretele together.” The Mayor further thanked the Chiefs for all attending the meeting. “It is not everyday that one has all Moretele’s Chiefs in one room. I am truly grateful for making the time and look forward to more engaging meetings like this one.”
