Nnetefatso Program Goes to Tlhoele, Ruigtesloot, and Thulare Flood Stricken Bridges!
SEVEN Provincial roads and three bridges affected by the recent heavy rainfall are in a queue of being fixed by the Department of Public Works. The roads including gravel roads and bridges are spread across Moretele Local Municipality’s wards.
Earlier today, Wednesday, 05 March 2025, Moretele Local Municipality Mayor, Hon. Cllr Masango George Manyike, Speaker, Hon. Cllr Freda Mapela, Hon. Exco members, Cllr VK Maluleka and Cllr Maggie Moetjie, Municipal Manager, Mr. Sipho Ngwenya, IDS Director, and Mr. Pholoso Molautsi visited disaster affected Tlhoele, Ruigtesloot and Thulare bridges.
At Ruigtesloot, Ward 01 Cllr Z Zimba also joined the visit. This is the village where a young boy lost his life earlier this week while swimming in the rising river with five friends.
On arrival at the bridge, community members had put rubble on the collapsed bridge to make it usable again. The gravel road worsened following the recent rainfall.
During the visits, the Mayor committed to make constant follow ups with the department of Public Works to check the progress of fixing the roads and re-graveling the washed-away gravel roads. “Today, we visited most of the disaster affected areas and have driven on most of these Provincial roads. I have seen the extent of the damages and our people cannot duck and dive or swerve while driving on this roads any longer. Our people have lost enough with this recent rainfall. I commit to do my best to ensure that the lives of our people are restored to their glorious days.”
