Moretele Speaker Convenes Ordinary Council Meeting…Business Registration Made Easy for Aspiring Entrepreneurs and Local Businesses!

THE Speaker of Moretele Local Municipality, Hon. Cllr Freda Mapela, convened an ordinary Council meeting today, Thursday, 30 October 2025, in the Municipal Chambers in Mathibestad.

Magoshi from Bakgatla ba Mosetlha and Baphuthing baga Nawa were also present, alongside residents from various wards within Moretele.

During the meeting, several reports and items were discussed and adopted, including a significant report from the Local Economic Development (LED) department. This report announced that local business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs can now register their businesses at the Municipal offices in Mathibestad, eliminating the need to travel to Mahikeng.

The LED Chairperson, Cllr John Macheke, presented the report to the community and received resounding applause. He urged Ward Councilors to assist in informing and mobilizing businesspeople to approach the LED Office for help with business registration and licensing applications.

“Our Municipality has partnered with the Department of Economic Development, Environment, Conservation and Tourism (DEDECT) following community complaints regarding the business license application process. Previously, residents had to travel to Mmabatho to apply for business licenses, which was costly for them.”

“Now, our community members no longer need to travel far, as applications can be processed locally in the LED office, and the department will collect them.”

Moretele Mayor, Hon. Cllr Masango George Manyike, presented the Section 52 report (quarterly assessment) for the month ending 30 September 2025. He outlined the financial and non-financial performance for the first quarter of the 2025/2026 financial year and highlighted the significant progress made this year in providing essential services to the community.

The Mayor also encouraged residents to voice their concerns through the appropriate channels and engage with the right individuals, emphasizing the importance of not sidelining their Ward Councilors.

He congratulated all departments for achieving an impressive performance increase of 99% compared to the first quarter of the 2024/2025 financial year.
