Pride and Dignity Restored at Sempapa Secondary School

More than fifty learners at Sempapa Secondary School are walking tall again after receiving brand-new school shoes — but the handover marked far more than a donation.

It signalled decisive action to address long-standing challenges, including access road improvements and water supply issues at the school.

Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) and Member of Parliament, Hon. Refilwe Mtsweni-Tsipane, described the initiative as a practical demonstration of government spheres and the private sector working together to restore dignity and improve learning conditions.

Today’s visit (Monday, 02 March) was her second to the school in less than two months, following her oversight programme conducted from 20–22 January 2026, during which she assessed school readiness across the Moretele area.

During that visit, she toured several schools — including Sempapa Secondary — where critical challenges such as poor access roads and lack of safe drinking water were raised.

At Sempapa Secondary School alone, seventy learners were identified as urgently needing school shoes — a need she immediately committed to address.

Following her January oversight visit, Hon. Mtsweni-Tsipane met with Moretele Local Municipality Mayor, Masango George Manyike, to present the challenges uncovered during the school inspections. The Mayor pledged municipal intervention, particularly regarding infrastructure-related concerns.

The event, attended by Kwetso Foundation Founder and Chairperson Mr. Gideon Mahlangu, Board Member Mr. Mokaila, foundation officials, Moretele Local Municipality Single Whip Hon. Kaike Mleta, constituency officials, the Sempapa Secondary School SGB, Principal and educators, as well as Ward 18 and 19 Councillors Joshua Motaung and Frans Modise, marked the implementation of the resolutions taken on 22 January.

Hon. Mtsweni-Tsipane commended Mayor Manyike for responding swiftly to her call and consistently prioritising community needs. She also expressed appreciation to the Kwetso Foundation for its meaningful contribution towards restoring learners’ dignity.

Both the Mayor and the Kwetso Foundation Chairperson reaffirmed their shared commitment to improving the lives of the people of Moretele through coordinated, responsive and community-centred leadership.
