Municipal Public Account Committee (MPAC)members conducted a consultative meeting to allow public participation for community members to interrogate the Annual Report 2023/2024 and give their inputs. Today’s cluster includes Ward 1,2,3,4,5,6,10,13,15,and 16.
The officials were called before the committee to provide answers to the questions raised by the communities and clarify complex issues that were raised. Questions raised were mainly of service delivery related, water projects, roads, sanitation, and high mast light.
Cllr MA Monaheng, the acting chairperson of the MPAC committee explained the role MPAC as follow: to provide oversight role to make sure that Political Administration and the management are held accountable on all performance and financial related issues of the Municipality.
Cllr Monaheng further indicated that the public participation meetings of the Municipal Public Accounts Committee are legislative requirements. Where the discrepancies are detected, MPAC makes a follow-up with relevant accounting officials to provide clarity and explanation.
The MPAC has done engagement with Auditor General of South African, Audit committee and management Annual Report findings by Auditor General of South Africa. The MPAC oversight report with inputs from the public for the Annual Report 2023 /2024 will be tabled to the council by the end of March 2025.
Amongst the public comments, there is a lack of storm water drainage at Ward 3 that cause the roads to flood, high mast lights at Ward 2 which are not energized, and completed water project at Ward 6 but no water.
