North West Acting Premier, MEC Sussan Dantjie, accompanied by Moretele Local Municipality Mayor, Hon. Cllr Masango George Manyike, has extended heartfelt condolences to two families in Moretele following the tragic loss of their loved ones due to a lightning incident.

The first visit was to the Mashishi family, who lost their child, Kenosi Mashishi (35). The Acting Premier conveyed condolences on behalf of the Premier and the provincial government, describing the loss as deeply painful and traumatic for the family and the community.
She encouraged the family to find strength in their faith and support systems, sharing words of comfort from scriptures, including Psalm 34:13 and Psalm 147:3, which remind the bereaved that God heals the broken-hearted and remains close in times of grief.
The Acting Premier and her delegation also visited the Shikwambane family, who also lost a loved one and the same incident.
Community leaders, traditional leadership, ward representatives and trooper groups joined the visit to offer messages of support. The Acting Premier thanked the troopers for their commitment to honouring the deceased and acknowledged the unity shown by the community during this difficult time.
Concerns raised by families regarding emergency medical services were noted, and the Acting Premier affirmed that such messages had reached government, adding that ambulances should always be available during major public events.
She further assured both families that they will receive equal support from government departments and the municipality, including psychosocial assistance from the Department of Social Development.
The Acting Premier encouraged families and the broader community not to place blame on one another, noting that extreme weather events linked to climate change were a contributing factor.
She called on stakeholders to work together to ensure dignified burials and continued support for those affected.
A joint memorial planning meeting is scheduled to take place, with the municipality and community structures coordinating arrangements.
The Province continues to stand in solidarity with both the Mashishi and Shikwambane families and calls on the public to keep them in their thoughts and prayers during this period of mourning.
