MORETELE MAYOR ENGAGES WITH RETIRED TEACHERS ASSOCIATION (MORERETA)

The Mayor of Moretele Local Municipality, Hon. Cllr, Masango George Manyike, today engaged with the Moretele Retired Teachers Association (MORERETA), a body established in September 2024 to support and empower retired educators within the community.

Joining the Mayor were SPU Chairperson, Cllr Mashudu Mphaphudi, Sports, Arts and Culture Chairperson, Cllr Molefe Morake, CDS Chairperson, Cllr Sarah Ndlovu, Ward 15 and 20 Cllr’s, Phetogo Letlape and Tebogo Skosana, a representative from Bakgatla ba Mosetlha and representatives from Moretele Crime Prevention.

MORERETA operates under its constitution with a clear vision of becoming a self-sustainable organisation. Its mission is to provide holistic support to its members through initiatives focused on health, social cohesion, sports, music, moral upliftment, financial well-being, and intellectual development. The association is guided by its motto, “Once a teacher, always a lifelong learner.”

During the engagement, a senior representative of MORERETA delivered a comprehensive presentation outlining the organisation’s purpose and programmes. He highlighted the challenges often faced by retired educators, noting that many become disconnected from their former workplaces and professional networks as new leadership and staff take over.

“It is from this reality that MORERETA was formed, to reconnect retired teachers, preserve their contributions, and create a platform for continued impact in society,” he said.

The association emphasised its commitment to remaining active in community development and expressed its willingness to collaborate with the Municipality on various initiatives.

MORERETA indicated that its members are eager to contribute their wealth of experience and skills in support of local development programmes.

The Mayor welcomed the initiative and acknowledged the significant role played by retired educators in shaping communities. The engagement reaffirmed the Municipality’s commitment to fostering partnerships that promote social development and inclusivity.
