Moretele Mayor joins North West Health MEC on oversight visits to health facilities!
MORETELE Local Municipality Mayor, Hon. Cllr Masango George Manyike this morning joined North West Health MEC, Hon. Jonas Sello Lehari on oversight visits to Carousel bulk pharmacy and Mathibestad Community Health Center (CHC).
The visits were aimed to get an update of the relocation project of the pharmacy to Mathibestad CHC, and to check how the health personnel that were previously housed at the Carousel were settling in at the CHC.
In attendance from Moretele Local Municipality were the Hon. Chief Whip, Kaike Mleta, Hon. Speaker, Cllr Freda Mapela, who joined the entourage in Mathibestad, and about a dozen Cllrs, from Ward 13, 14, 22, 19, 18, 07 and PR Cllr Mabena.
At the Carousel, the MEC instructed the project team heading the relocation of the pharmacy to ensure a finalized move to Mathibestad CHC by 01 April 2026. While the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) are also sought to relocate to the CHC, a move that will ensure quick turnaround times in cases of emergencies.
During an update meeting at Mathibestad CHC, Infrastructure Chief Director, Mr. Sentle Moreriane said the completion of the CHC project is underway. “We have conducted inspections on site and finalized the specifications. “In three months period, we should have finalised the evaluation and the appointment of the contractor.”
The construction of the CHC commenced in 2012 and experienced several stoppages by contractors.
Attendees expressed displeasure and disappointment that the CHC is still not finalised until today. “The people of Moretele need to be taken seriously by health officials. It cannot be accepted that all we hear is excuses that contractors abandoned the project while workers knock off at 12:30.
In closing, MEC Lehari gave a background on the CHC project and its challenges. He said the project is envisaged for completion in 18-months.
