Maubane Village, Moretele Local Municipality – February 28, 2025 – In a powerful display of unity and concern, the young people and community members of Maubane Village organized a Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Femicide Awareness March today, following the distressing disappearance of 21-year-old Tshegofatso Morifi. Tshegofatso was last seen on January 11, 2025, wearing all black.
The march was spearheaded by the Bakgatla Ba Mocha tribal authority, with significant support from the Moretele Local Municipality’s Office of the Mayor’s Special Projects Unit and Community Development Services. The community rallied together to raise awareness about GBV and to advocate for the safe return of Tshegofatso.
During the march, a message of solidarity was delivered by Rangwane Wa Kgosi Ntate Maubane on behalf of Bakgatla Ba Mocha under the chieftaincy of Kgosi P.P. Maubane. He expressed the community’s deep concern over Tshegofatso’s disappearance, stating, “As Bakgatla Ba Mocha, we are also affected by the missing of Tshegofatso. I commend the community members and organizers for their unity and encourage everyone to work together during this difficult time.”
A missing person case was officially opened at the Makapanstad Police Station on January 16, 2025. The community is committed to continuing follow-up programs to ensure that Tshegofatso is brought back home safely.
